Harvey Lang is currently a Technical Services Lead at Syngenta Flowers. His duties include working closely with brokers and growers on production advice for poinsettias, geraniums, and other spring annual products. He develops technical information and documentation on all Syngenta Flowers’ vegetative products for both the greenhouse industry and consumers. He speaks regularly at regional, state, and national conferences. Dr. Lang received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Kansas State University, Texas A&M University, and Penn State University, respectively. He worked for several years as a state extension specialist at Iowa State University and as an educator/researcher at Texas A&M University. He has also owned and managed a successful greenhouse business in which he produced year-round flowering potted plants and baskets.

Harvey will present guidelines for producing great-looking crops of vegetative geraniums. The presentation will focus on key production areas during finishing of geraniums, including fertility, light, temperature, growth regulation, and pest and disease control. There will be additional discussions on key tips for popular interspecific types, such as Calliope and Caliente, and how they differ from normal zonal geraniums. The presentation will include colorful and useful depictions of geraniums both in production and in the landscape. Come ready to learn about this important and popular floricultural crop.
